Director, Engineering

Based at our Corporate Office in Singapore, we are looking for a passionate and energetic individual to join us as Director, Engineering.

Job Responsibilities:

The Director, Engineering reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Operations and has a dotted reporting line to the Vice President, Technical Services. He/she is seen as primarily support mechanism to the General Managers and properties’ Engineering team in the field, providing them with advices and guidance on operational and technical issues pertaining to Engineering.

The Role:

I.     Existing and Newly Developed Hotels and Resorts

Provides assistance and support to operating and newly developed hotels and resorts:

  • Provides direction and consultation to properties’ Director of Engineering / Chief Engineer on new and existing engineering standards and procedures, safety and environmental issues to ensure ongoing compliance with company standards and specifications.
  • Provides input and advice to properties engineering department on renovation projects and system/equipment replacement.
  • Manages cyclical capital refurbishment and major capital projects for all properties to ensure appropriate project plans are developed; monitor progress regularly and review results to ensure compliance with established quality standards and within established budgets and time-lines.
  • Provides guidance to General Managers and Chief Engineers on best practices regarding energy consumption and utilization.   
  • Conduct pre-opening reviews in relation to Hotel Group standard and specifications for new property openings.
  • Acts as a key person in the due diligence process on potential new properties entering the Group by providing technical engineering input and advice for plan review, E & M and FLS services related.
  • Performs detailed Engineering and Services audit.
  • Recommends new systems to improve operational efficiency and assists in the implementation process.
  • Reviews Risk management, Environmental and Loss and Prevention programme
  • Creates consistency of service deliveries in all PPHG Hotels & Resorts by establishing and measuring quality standards throughout all operational engineering aspects of the Group.
  • Ensures that all aspects of engineering plans and design proposals are aligned with safety and local regulation and codes of practice and standards.
  • Assists with the coordination of computerised presentations, spreadsheets and other tangible graphic reports, as directed.

II.      New Development

Provides assistance and support to Development team:

Planning and Design

  • Confers with other project consultants to provide technical advice on PPHG requirements
  • Reviews, approves and comments on schematic and construction drawings as submitted for PPHG’s approval by architects, interior designers and design consultants.
  • Co-ordinates with the hotel team for the governmental agencies of licenses and permits.

Project Management

  • Consults with hotel owners and /or hotel management to determine the scope of work and value engineering for new constructions.
  • Participates in the review of the design and construction contracts for construction projects.

Planning and Budget

  • Approves and monitors ongoing adherence to project budget(s) to ensure that works is performed within contract parameters; reviews and approves change orders for valid revisions to original budget
  • Develops and communicates an effective action plan and timeline for assigned project(s); monitors general progress and prepares status reports and other materials documenting the process

Management Support

  • Provides assistance to Development and Technical Services in conducting feasibility studies, due diligence reviews, repositioning studies and management take-overs; on-site visits to determine scope, complexity and cost associated with a particular project.
  • Provides administrative assistance to policies, standards, manuals, guidelines, procedures and/ or communication materials to define, implement and maintain project management activities within the context of legal compliance and business objectives  of the organisation

The Person:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in Engineering/Project Management. Candidates with Hospitality experience will be of advantage.
  • Possess a Degree in Engineering / Building Management.
  • Able to influence and develop others through building a collaborative relationship
  • Possess the necessary technical expertise and demonstrate depth of knowledge and skill in technical area.
  • Able to foster innovation,  to develop, sponsor or support the introduction of new and improved method, products, procedures or technologies
  • Fluent communication in English and Mandarin, both written and oral.
  • Possess computer literacy which include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD,  Microsoft Office Project and Engineering Preventive Maintenance program “HOTSOS”
