Pan Pacific Hotels Group pledges global support for Earth Hour 2014
Close to 30 “Pan Pacific” and PARKROYAL properties across Asia, Oceania and North America will go dark for one hour on 29 March, with fringe activities organised to promote the conservation message.
Singapore, 25 March 2014 – In demonstration of its corporate value of respecting and caring for the wider community, Pan Pacific Hotels Group has announced that it will take a global stand against climate change by participating in Earth Hour 2014.
On Saturday 29 March, 8.30 – 9.30pm (local time), 29 “Pan Pacific” and PARKROYAL hotels, resorts and serviced suites across Asia, Oceania and North America will switch off their façade, signage and non-essential lighting, as well as dim the lights in public areas, restaurants and exterior spaces. A number of properties will also increase chiller temperatures by 1-2 degree Celsius, as well as switch off non-critical heating and music in lounges and restaurants.
In the weeks leading up to Earth Hour, all of the Group’s participating properties began to actively promote the event and encourage guest participation through in-room guest letters and the exhibition of posters in public spaces.
Pan Pacific Jakarta, which started counting down to Earth Hour on its Facebook and Twitter pages since 1 March, will turn on selected guest room lights to form the Earth Hour symbol of “60+” on the building façade during Earth Hour as a visually arresting display of support.
At PARKROYAL on Pickering in Singapore, guests who book an Earth Hour weekend stay on the hotel’s website will receive a pocket garden kit as an inspiration to champion for a greener tomorrow.
During Earth Hour, guests can also look forward to a variety of energy-saving and charitable activities taking place at “Pan Pacific” and PARKROYAL properties across the globe.
Several hotels including PARKROYAL Darling Harbour, Sydney and PARKROYAL Parramatta in Australia, PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road in Singapore, Pan Pacific Xiamen and Pan Pacific Suzhou in China, Pan Pacific Nirwana Bali Resort in Indonesia and Pan Pacific Vancouver in Canada will offer guests the experience of dining by candlelight.
At PARKROYAL Saigon, PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur and Pan Pacific Ningbo in China, discounted/complimentary canapés and drinks will be served in the lobbies. PARKROYAL Penang Resort and PARKROYAL on Pickering will also extend their happy hours until midnight/closing time.
PARKROYAL Melbourne Airport, PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur, Pan Pacific Perth, Pan Pacific Seattle and Pan Pacific Manila have concocted special Earth Hour cocktails. Part of the sales proceeds will go towards charities such as Earth Hour Blue’s “Bancas (fiberglass boats) for the Philippines” project to benefit Typhoon Haiyan victims, Stepping Stones Living Centre for underprivileged children in Malaysia, and Seattle-based One Day’s Wages, which strives to alleviate global poverty.
Other planned activities include a kids’ lantern-making session coupled with a lantern night walk at PARKROYAL Penang Resort, signing of Earth Hour pledges at PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur and a glow-in-the-dark dance performance at Pan Pacific Jakarta.
