9th October, 2017— In conjunction with World Food Day, a global day of action against hunger, Pan Pacific Hotels Group has partnered the People’s Association to reach out to more than 1,700 low-income households island-wide with their thoughtful food bundles of locally-grown produce.

Volunteers Packing Food BundlesAs part of Pan Pacific Hotels Group’s Eat Well Do Goodinitiative, a food donation drive was conducted across five Pan Pacific and PARKROYAL hotels for a month from 15 July to 15 August, where close to $35,000 was raised to purchase food bundles for a total of 1,722 families this year.

Each food bundle, worth a total of $37.50, has been carefully curated to contain healthy ingredients rarely received by beneficiaries in typical food donation drives. Comprising locally-grown high quality produce such as barramundi fish, green leafy vegetables and eggs, each food bundle is also accompanied by a Japanese saucepan and recipes designed by our culinary team to teach recipients how to whip up a tasty and healthy meal for their families at home.

Chef Andy Oh Pan Pacific Orchard Making food accessible to all has become Pan Pacific Hotels Group’s annual mission. This year, our World Food Day campaign has been made possible with the support of like-minded corporate and community partners The Food Bank Singapore, urban farm Comcrop, kitchen supplier ToTT, as well as the People’s Association, who identified the beneficiaries through their vast network of grassroots organisations on the ground.

To mark World Food Day and to kick off our food distribution drive, we hosted 200 beneficiaries to a special five-course lunch yesterday. The menu included a dish made with locally-sourced ingredients from the food bundle, which was demonstrated onstage by Executive Chef Andy Oh of Pan Pacific Orchard, Singapore (pictured right).

About Comcrop Singapore
Comcrop is a high tech farm aiming to feed cities sustainably by growing in the city centre. By cultivating on rooftops and other such marginalised spaces to create “a new hectare", they greatly reduce the environmental impact associated with traditional agriculture. This method greatly reduces food miles, which not only means lower cost, longer shelf-life but also more nutrition for customers. Comcrop herbs are harvested daily here in Singapore so customers get the healthiest and freshest flavours. Their herbs and vegetables are grown without using any pesticides, herbicides or other harmful chemicals, using fresh water and plenty of sunshine. Comcrop currently supplies high-quality fresh produce to grocers, top hotels, bars and restaurants in Singapore.

About The Food Bank Singapore
Established in 2012, The Food Bank Singapore (FBSG) is Singapore’s first food bank and aims to be the prevailing centralised coordinating organisation for all food donations in Singapore. Its mission is to bridge potential donors and members (beneficiaries). It complements charities’ food donation efforts by helping them to obtain better access to excess food. The food bank is also looking at finding creative and alternative ways to maximise use of excess food. Besides collecting, storing and distributing donated food, FBSG aspires to be the voice of food resource planning and management, and spread the word on its importance to ensure long term providence of food for everyone.
